December is for resting

Greetings and hey, it's the beginning of the close of the calendar year. I am soaking up some rest already. With every year that passes, the more I value the slowing down that feels natural this time of year. I've long been a proponent of a shorter workweek (could we please go to 4 8-hour days rather than 5? And ideally I think 3 workdays per week would be better) but I really think that when we have the opportunity to slow down the ways in which the machines of capitalism keep us churning, we should do what we can. I hope you are able to find some time to rest and do things that are restorative.

Something that has been really positive for me the past year or two is a result of the wholesale side of my art biz gaining traction. It's not even the wholesale itself, it's a bit of faith in humanity resulting from being more aware of small shops sharing about their communities. These little art shops and community craft spaces are providing a place for people to gather and connect with their neighbors, and I think it's good for the world. Thank you to all of you who are making these spaces in your neck of the woods!

Have you heard of the Northwoods Baseball Sleep Radio podcast? It's an AM-radio -style broadcast of a fictional baseball game, set in the upper Midwest and purportedly airing out of my hometown of Big Rapids, Michigan. It's designed to lull you to sleep the way an AM radio broadcast might do, and I can vouch that it works: took a really lovely little nap the other day while listening to the latest episode. I also swear I've seen the photo of host Wally McCarthy before somewhere in my childhood, but who knows.

Have you read Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree? Or the prequel, Bookshops and Bonedust? I'm currently reading the third in the series, Brigands and Breadknives, and I highly recommend these books. They're cozy and also full of action, set in a world that feels like yore but also feels like you could step into it today, and with characters you love to get to know but also somehow feel you've known forever. I feel like reading these books makes me a better D and D player as well as just being fun to read. Check 'em out!
